Pre-K 4 to Kindergarten Transition Meeting

The pre-K to kindergarten transition meeting is an opportunity to discuss your child's needs and how the school will address them. Some topics that will be addressed at the meeting include:

  • Who is responsibleWho will be responsible for ensuring your child's needs are met and their IEP goals are addressed?
  • What are the needsWhat do you see as your child's greatest needs, and does that align with what the school is addressing?
  • When will services be providedWhen will your child receive their services, and how often?
  • Where will services be providedWhere will your child be receiving their services?
  • How will I be informedHow will you be informed of your child's progress?

We will also discuss assessments your child may need before entering kindergarten, such as psychological assessments, speech assessments, or physical therapy assessments.

Additionally, we will address methods to prepare your child for kindergarten include: 
 
  • Singing, reading, and talking about the alphabet
  • Talking about colors and shapes
  • Counting numbers up to 30
  • Teaching your child their full name, parent's names, and phone number
  • Practicing routines for morning and evening
  • Reading books about going to kindergarten
  • Encouraging your child to speak with other children
